North Austin Development Designed to be Pedestrian-Friendly

By TOM HARRIS KVUE News   A new urban living community is being built in North Austin at the intersection of Lamar and Airport boulevards. The idea behind it is for residents to be able to drive less.   Midtown Commons at Crestview Station is being designed around the new commuter rail and the current Capitol Metro bus system. Construction is underway on 60,000 square feet of retail and office space. "In the retail, we are looking for about four restaurants. We are trying to make it a neighborhood community center. First Transit-Oriented Development En Route to Austin

By Matt Hudgins, Prism Insight  Mass Transit Magazine   Construction has begun on the first mixed-use developmentdesigned around a commuter rail station in Austin, Texas. When allphases of the $100 million project are complete, Midtown Commons atCrestview Station will provide approximately 900 apartments and64,000 sq. ft. of commercial space. Developer Trammell Crow Co.also has obtained approval for as many as 500 single-family homesand condominiums on an adjacent tract for future sale tohomebuilders.
